Currently we are not having in-person Worship Services but Sermons are available online. Please be sure to go to our website at www.shoresumc.org and click on “Sermons” top left.  The office is open Monday-Friday 8:30 am-3:30 pm.  Masks required and practice social distancing when in our buildings and if you are experiencing flu-like symptoms such as a fever, coughing, and shortness of breath please return another day when you are feeling better.

Greetings from Shores United Methodist Church,

Sunday, July 19, 2020!!!!!  That is the date we have been waiting for, resuming in-person worship on our church campus.    Hallelujah!   Thank you to over 100 people who responded to our survey several weeks ago.   Your input helped make this decision.

Pastor Carolyn and a Task-Force of church leaders and staff have been working for weeks to review the guidelines and gather all the materials and procedures required to resume worship.  We thought we had everything set for an earlier date (July 5, 2020) for “inside” worship, but the rising numbers of infection in St. Johns County caused a two week delay and a possible change of course.    We are now considering the service will be a “drive-in” worship service outside of the church building, in the parking lot.  This would mean NO MASKS, no need for the nursery, and no need for social distancing as long as everyone stays inside their nice, comfortable, air conditioned vehicles.  This way we can accommodate 70 cars, some containing more than one person!   We have yet to determine the time of the service.

Pastor Carolyn is referring to this as an “experimental service” because of all the changes we must implement inside the sanctuary to comply with the CDC, the Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church and the State of Florida.    A worship service outside has its own challenges, including obtaining the necessary electronics and training ushers as parking attendants.

We are asking for your prayers and additional grace for our Task Force members, Ushers, and Greeters who will also experience a “first” with this service, whether it is inside or outside the church sanctuary.

All of this is contingent on the current COVID-19 infection rates in St. Johns County and the availability of the electronic equipment.   Should there be a change, we will post on Facebook and send an email.   If we do not have an email address for you, call the church office, 797-4416, and get on a “call list.”  Please “friend” the church on Facebook so that you will receive notifications.

We will continue to post our services online even after “in-person” worship services resume, whether inside or outside of the church building.

God bless you and keep you safe from all harm!

Task Force Members:  Pastor Carolyn, Susan Corcoran, Suzann Maass, Cheryl Jeffries, June & Sidney Baker,  Bill Vershave, Phyllis Wolfe, Gary Morgan, and Vicki Hall, Dennis and Lisa Jones

Shores United Methodist Church is asking everyone to stop at noon daily and pray…for the Great Healer to intercede, for the sick, the medical professionals, the caregivers, the decision-makers , and those who are scared!  Call or FaceTime a friend and pray with them on the phone. God is in control!

Vision

“Where there is no vision, the people perish . . .” Proverbs 29: 18a. The Bible’s direction is clear: we need to have a dream, a vision, a picture, a direction from God or we perish in the chaos! Our Vision—New life with God; deepening our Christian discipleship.

We also need a goal; something to aim at; a focus for our God-given gifts and energy. In short, a mission that calls to us. Our mission–sharing God’s joy by serving the community, each other and God.
